Abstract
In 2015, Kenya began the process of transiting from the content oriented curriculum, which had been in place for 32 years and laden with claims of content overload, to the competency-based curriculum (CBC). The move was a major shift since it completely dropped to old curriculum of 8-4-4 system and ushered in a new one of 2-6-6-3, complete with a new curriculum framework, learning areas/subjects, teaching and learning materials and pedagogy. And in 2019, CBC was rolled out in the early learning education category from play group to grade 3. This cohort is the pioneer of the CBC in the country and is now at grade 6. I consider this shift a major curriculum reform initiative
